Red Wines

Gamay Noir - 2009

Picked early in this wacky harvest, the grapes were lighter than usual, with malic acid predominating the mouthfeel. But after a year in the barrel, the wine has developed good concentration and softer acidity. Slight tannins with cranberry and blueberries fill your mouth and coat your palate making this wine a perfect companion for the grill.

Malbec Merlot - 2008

A challenging vintage for reds, but this wine seems to have found its way. 60% Malbec blended with 40% Merlot from the Lot 66 vineyard, have created a medium bodied red needing some aeration and time to open the dark plum fruit and cocoa. Definitely a food wine!

Solstice - 2008

One of our flagship wines, Solstice is a blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Barrelled and blended on the Winter Solstice and bottled on the Summer Solstice gives this wine a recipe 366 days in a combination of new and older American, Canadian and French Oak. Soft and integrated tannin and alcohol helps to carry the cherry and cassis flavours, slightly spicy nose of white pepper and herbaceous garrigue through to a medium length finish.

Merlot - 2007

A beauty of a wine. Black Raspberry and red cherry licorice in the aroma, with hints of earthy forest floor. The taste follows with cherry and chocolate and a nice thread of cinnamon in the finish.

Solstice - 2007

23 barrels of Merlot, 11 barrels of Syrah, and 10 barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon. For a year those wines remained in darkness developing concentration of fruit, structure and balanced finesse. On Dec. 21, 2008, those wines were brought back into the light and blended together to begin a celebration of renewal. The nose shows the ripeness of the vintage with plums, red fruits and toasted vanilla and spice. In the mouth, it comes together with ripe red and dark fruits, a touch of pepper, layered spices, firm tannins and length through the finish. Drink now if you decant it or tuck away in the cellar for 3-5 more years.

Syrah - 2007

Old world charm is how I can best describe this Syrah. Just as the Rhone Valley is known for ripe plum and garrigue with benchmark spiciness, our version has this in spades. Countryside wild herbs and flowers( Garrigue), fresh tobacco leaves, and white pepper are the signature of this wine, with integrated tannins this is the best Syrah we have produced yet. One for the cellar for sure.

Bottoms UP - 2009

A full flavoured, full bodied blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, Malbec and Gamay went into the process for this unique wine. After Fermentation, the “ Lees” or heavy sediment is separated from the clearer wine (in a process called racking) in each of the red tanks. The “Bottoms” as they are so lovingly referred to, contain some of the most flavourful and healthy components of the wine. After a long process of settling and racking, the resulting wine is put into barrel for an extended period. We only make this wine in years that warrant the extended contact with the lees. Enjoy it for good health, Bottom’s Up!
